Position Details

General Statement

Developing and teaching the full range of classes from basics to qualification on plate and pipe including but not limited to: oxy-fuel gas, air carbon arc and plasma cutting, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, & FCAW welding.

This is a year round (12-month) position.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work closely with other instructors and welding coached to provide quality instruction both in the class room and shop;
• Recruitment and PR activities to attract students into the College’s welding technology program;
• Represent the College and the welding program by participating in community & national organizations that enhance the welding industry;
• Being able to stay current with state of the art welding technology, processes and equipment;
• Working closely with College administration, Great Falls College MSU faculty and staff, and community members on program activities;
• Work closely with advisors to promote student success;
• Participate in the campus welding / metals fabrication advisory board;
• Develop equipment specifications and assist with building design decisions;
• Maintain equipment as needed.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

• Associate’s Degree in a related field plus three years working experience OR equivalent combination of five years education, training, teaching, or related employment experience *;
• A working knowledge of AWS, ASME, and API welding codes and inspection procedures;
• Demonstrated expertise in: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and critique welds for defects and discontinuities
• Experience teaching in an educational setting;
CWE certification required within one year of employment; CWI certification required within two years of employment;
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow WPS welding procedure specification required;
• Computer literacy required;
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills required; and
• Ability to work positively with teams and individuals with diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, and interests required.

*The requirements state that the applicant needs 10,000 hours or 5 years’ experience in the trade area. Any earned certifications, completed apprentice program, industry training or workshops, related military training and experience, college coursework or degrees are considered on a cumulative basis. The time teaching in the trade area also will be considered. Documentation of employment in the trade area and evidence of related training is a must to validate credentials rather than just making a statement without verification.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus two years working experience OR equivalent combination of education, training, teaching, or related employment experience; and
• Experience teaching in an educational setting required;
• Experience teaching in a technical or community college preferred.
• Hold CWE and / or CWI industry certification(s)
• Experience with machining equipment and CAD / CAM a plus

Great Falls College MSU is a comprehensive two-year college located on a beautiful 20-acre campus and serves approximately 2000 students a year, including students taking courses and programs online. It is one of four units of Montana State University and MSU’s only “stand-alone” two-year college. An extensive renovation and expansion project in 2010 added three state-of-the-art science labs, an expansive library and resource center, and an Industrial Trades building. An infant through preschool learning center was built in 2012 to provide early learning opportunities for children of students and the community. Renovations include a one-stop Student Central area, remodeled bookstore, a community conference center, and additional space for the Outreach/Workforce Development Department and College Relations and Advancement. MSU – Northern’s Great Falls satellite campus is located at Great Falls College MSU, offering 4-year and graduate degrees. The College has a reputation for high-quality educational programming delivered with a student-centered philosophy.

The College constantly evaluates its educational offerings to provide challenging, high-demand programs leading to transfer Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees, and terminal Associate of Applied Science degrees. One-year Certificates and professional certifications are also offered. As a comprehensive two-year college, credit and non-credit community enrichment, customized training and contract courses are provided. Day, evening, weekend, and online classes are offered.
